The Festival of Lights kicks off at sundown on December 18 this year. You could order Chinese...or go the other classic route and keep things celebratory with takeout fare from these great local spots.

“Latkes-A-Go-Go” is back. Once again, caterer extraordinaire Lisa Dupar will assemble latkes, matzo ball soup, challah, and jelly doughnuts. Each dish comes a la carte, portioned to serve six people. Why yes, wine pairings are also available.

Zylberschtein’s Delicatessen and Bakery

Pinehurst/Northgate

Josh Grunig’s Pinehurst deli is ready with slow-simmered brisket by the pound, latkes by the dozen (or half dozen), sufganiyot, plus additional sides and sweets, including chocolate gelt cake. Order it all a la carte, to pick up each night during Hanukkah. Dishes come with light re-heating instructions.

A broad and versatile menu of latkes (and sides), soups, brisket, sufganiyot, and other fare awaits at Vance Dingfelder's deli. Be aware: Pre-orders open six days ahead of the date you want to pick up.

Rubinstein Bagels

Funny enough, Christmas Eve is the busiest day at this burgeoning bagel shop. And this year, it falls during Hanukkah. Owner Andrew Rubinstein is seizing the synergy with a deal: He's throwing in a free eight-ounce tub of schmear for every dozen bagels you pre-order online for December 24.
