This weekend, Nicky Farms USA—the Portland-based purveyor of specialty meats—throws its 14th annual celebration of American carnivores. It's a Seattle versus Portland throw down, with four marquee chefs from both cities competing to see who can create the most interesting dish with a most interest meat. Last year, Poncharee Kounpungchart and Wiley Frank of Little Uncle blew my mind a little bit with their water buffalo with Wai Wai noodles.  Now Eduardo Jordan of Salare and Bateau's Taylor Thornhill join Seth Fernland of Novelty Hill Januik Winery and Jesse Elliot from Witness Bar to rep Seattle and maybe one-up the Little Uncle duo.

The prospect of sampling wares from some of the Seattle area's hottest chefs would alone be worth the drive to the Resort at the Mountain near Mount Hood. But the artisan marketplace—an outdoor smorgasbord where farmers, butchers, wine makers, and other purveyors practically beg you to stuff your face—makes the event an embarrassment of riches.
