Yes, Seattle-dwelling natives of the Midwest: I have heard your pleas. I have received your emails. And now, I'm happy to have a proper update on our state's first-ever Steak 'N Shake.
After more than a few roadblocks, franchisee Joe Fernandez says Steak 'N Shake will open May 16 at 1417 Third Ave, the former home of Bruno's.
This outpost of the venerable steakburger chain will be a bit different from the freestanding drive-thrus that populate the Midwest and east coast. For one thing, it's in the thick of downtown. And the menu will be streamlined accordingly, but rest assured it will include the Frisco melt, the drippiest, most satisfying sourdough-based fast food sandwich in all the land. Oh, and this urban concept Steak 'N Shake will also serve local beer.
Soon, Fernandez says, signs will go up on the storefront, along with a countdown to opening day.
