What: SoDo Cellars Wingman Red Wine Blend Washington State 2014 $15

Where: McCarthy and Schiering, Full Pull Wines, Bin 41, Esquin Wine and Spirits, Tacoma Boys

Why:  Well, the holidays have come and gone, and—if you’re like me—that means it’s time for a little fiscal belt tightening (and maybe a little literal belt loosening too). For those looking to put a little cash back in the coffers but still wanting to drink in style, we have the perfect post-holiday gift for you.

SoDo Cellars is a new project from hyper-talented winemaker Ryan Crane of Kerloo Cellars, which recently relocated its production facility from Walla Walla to SoDo. The winery’s first release, the SoDo Cellars 2014 Wingman Red Wine Washington ($15) is a superb wine and an outrageous value—the best value wine I came across from Washington in my tastings last year.

Mostly grenache along with mourvèdre and syrah, it’s piercingly pure, with aromas of raspberries and pepper. The palate is where this wine truly shines, with elegant yet plump, plum flavors and dialed back oak. It’s a shining example of a Washington Rhone-style blend and a complete steal at this price. Drink up and, at this price, consider stocking up too.
