John Howie, perhaps the most philanthropic chef in town, is closing the Seattle Seastar location in January.

John Howie sent word this week that his Seastar Restaurant and Raw Bar located atop the Westlake Whole Foods will close January 3, 2015. The release says Howie's restaurant group came to a "mutual decision" with its landlord, Vulcan, to not renew the lease.

During its five-year run here, Seastar saw some major changes in the surrounding neighborhood. The official word is Howie is searching for a new space for Seastar, but the current location will serve lunch and dinner per usual until its final day.

The Bellevue Seastar will remain open (as will John Howie Steak and Sport). Howie is plenty busy working on his big Bothell project: the Beardslee Public House restaurant and brewery and an adjacent distillery, Wildwood Spirits Co. Both are set to open in 2015.
