John Sundstrom’s New Restaurant Has No Name

At least not yet. But the Lark chef is planning a second establishment in a rapidly changing pocket of Capitol Hill near 10th and Madison. Sundstrom promises cocktails, oysters, and “Seattle’s best selection of jamon and prosciutto.”


Chophouse Row: The Melrose Market of 2014?

The double-M comparison is often overused, but Melrose Market developer Liz Dunn is actually behind this artful reimagining of a rowdy, grotty old music studio near 11th and Pike. Volunteer Park Cafe’s Ericka Burke will open a restaurant called Chop Shop and a sandwich and juice bar in the front, while author and cheese auteur Kurt Timmermeister will debut his farm-made ice cream at Kurt Farm Shop in a rear courtyard.


Good Bar, a Marination Deviation

The women behind all things Marination are partnering with their former chef to open a cocktail bar in a soaring Pioneer Square space that was once home to a bank. The Roman Revival building is the aesthetic antithesis of Marination’s Big Blue food truck. But the sloppy joes on the menu suggest a similarly informal vibe.


Bellevue Scores Hokkaido Ramen Santouka 

The Japanese chain is opening its first freestanding restaurant in downtown Bellevue. Ramen geeks have greeted this news with lots of shrieking and jumping up and down.


Damn the Weather Sounds Damn Amazing

And that was our opinion before we found out that the Walrus and the Carpenter chef de cuisine Eli Dahlin will be the chef at this new bar in (you guessed it) Pioneer Square. The name was inspired by an old brunch libation, the unreserved cocktails will be the inspiration of local bar veteran Bryn Lumsden.
