The popular West Seattle bakery has officially opened its second location at 15th and John. Pastry chef William Leaman told CHS that all of Nouveau’s chocolate and candy production is moving to the Capitol Hill space. The bakery is open Monday to Thursday 6am to 7pm, Friday 7am to 9pm, Saturday 7am to 9pm, and Sunday 7am to 7pm.
Ellen Kelly and Rick Weersing of Noble Fir opened their new bar in Fremont this week; it's named after an indigenous shark found in the Puget Sound. The 21-and-older hangout has 36 beers on tap and a possible snow cone dessert in the works.
Eater Seattle found a new food truck at the 420 Fest last weekend, specializing in healthy waffles. Owner and anthropologist Carmen Lamm makes her brioche and corn bread (among others) waffles from scratch using all-natural ingredients. She’s not sure where she will park quite yet, but will be targeting the health-driven community and serving lunch and dinner to start out.
La Cocina Oaxaquena
Hey, look–another new Mexican restaurant on the Hill: Misael Dominguez and David Gradwohl opened an authentic Oaxacan spot in the former Pho Tai space at Melrose and Pine, reported CHS. Focusing on dinner and drinks, the restaurant will be open from 4pm to 2am daily serving up tacos, moles, and entomatadas.
Grill on Broadway
CHS reports that after 22 years, the Broadway Grill (as old timers call it) will have its last day on Sunday. When Matt Walsh and CJ Saretto took over in 2010, they were hit hard with problems from the previous owners and never could recover. The restaurant went to Facebook where the closure announcement received 81 comments of heartbroken customers in one day.
Second and Marion will become home to Homegrown’s fourth location by the end of the summer. Cofounder Ben Friedman said the menu will be the same as the other locations in Capitol Hill, Queen Anne, and Fremont. Hopefully the whether stays nice to take full advantage of the 20 outdoor seats that are in the works.
Sugar Mountain Bakery
Pastry connoisseur Lucy Damkoehler has been hired by Kurt Dammeier to run the kitchen at a new patisserie that will share his Max’s restaurant space, says Eater Seattle. The bakery will have signature desserts, sandwiches, a hot and cold vegetable station, seafood, mac and cheese, and veggie chips, and be housed on the ground level of the old AutoSport garage across from Whole Foods on Westlake.
After almost a year and a half away from the Seattle Pie Company, twins Lyss Lewis and Nat Belucchi are coming back with a bar-style pie shop with savory pastries, beer on tap, and pie-flavored martinis. The ladies will officially be in business on May 1, open Wednesday through Sunday from 5pm to 2am.
