November has arrived. Coffee cups are turning red. And it’s that time of year when one’s fancy lightly turns to thoughts of knife-packing and pea puree. Yes indeed, Top Chef is here again. Season nine premieres tonight; this time around the show was filmed in Texas, so prepare yourself for plenty of Padma in a cowboy hat.
The latest crop of contestants includes four from the Seattle area, part of a whopping group of 29 that will quickly be winnowed down to a more manageable 16 competitors. Our so-called “hopefuls” include Tavolata sous chef Simon Pantet, Colin Patterson of Sutra, Coterie Room exec sous Nina Vicente, and caterer Ashley Villaluz. Seattle Weekly’s Hanna Raskin profiled each of them for your anticipatory pleasure.
Be forewarned, however, that early reports say these contestants “will be dropping like flies” in tonight’s episode. Tune in to Bravo at 10pm to see if any of our locals make the cut to compete.
