Dulces Bistro and Wine: open for business.

Longtime Madrona favorite Dulces Latin Bistro has resurfaced downtown under a slightly different name: Dulces Bistro and Wine. The restaurant quietly opened its doors late last week; owners and spouses Carlos Kainz and Julie Guerrero announced in September that Dulces was taking over the former Typhoon! space on Western Avenue.

According to Guerrero, the couple dropped the word "Latin" from the name "because everybody thought we were a Mexican restaurant." The menu of Latin and Mediterranean-influenced plates is largely unchanged from the Madrona days, says Guerrero. "I wanted our previous customers who come down here to not be surprised." Dulces 2.0 is 64 seats, compared with 42 seats at the original location.

The new name also pays tribute to Kainz’s love of wine. A "wine cave" tucked above the kitchen will soon house the bulk of the restaurant’s bottles. The space will host tastings and private dining events, says Guerrero, and do some retail sales as well.

Right now the restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, with a few breakfast items snuck onto the menu on weekends. And yes, there is a happy hour.
