The City Council land-use committee continues to weigh street food legislation.

Over on Publicola Erica C. Barnett has a recap of Wednesday’s City Council meeting regarding relaxed street food regulations. And things are looking promising!

Writes Barnett: The city council’s land-use committee seemed eager to move forward quickly with new rules expanding access to street food this morning, when the group held what could be its penultimate discussion of the street food legislation. The proposal would allow street carts and trucks on city sidewalks and streets, with substantial restrictions and setbacks from places like restaurants, schools, and retail stores.

Barnett goes on to report the committee is in favor of having vendors maintain a 50-foot buffer between their carts and restaurants (a point of contention at past hearings, restauranteurs had lobbied for 100 feet). It’s likely vendors will face similar parking restrictions near high schools as well.

The next meeting is scheduled for July 13 at 9:30am.
