On Tuesday, May 10 (tonight) at 7pm, it’s the free Balvenie tasting at the Washington Athletic Club. Details on that whole situation here.
Wednesday, May 11 is opening day for new Capitol Hill wine bar and charcuterie spot Cure. It’s kinda tiny, so you might want to go around 4 if you want to ensure a spot at one of its tables. Remember to be nice! The owners are first-time restaurateurs.
Also on Wednesday, Urban Enoteca is hosting an eco-focused party called Crave Green with wines from Cave B, Côte Bonneville, Fidélitas, Five Star Cellars, McCrea Cellars, Fielding Hills, and Kiona Vineyard and lots of snacks from the inhouse chef. Other enticements: spa services and a fashion show. Tickets are $35 or $50 if you want a swag bag, and the event is from 9 to 11pm. Details here but a word of warning: trying to decipher the food menu may induce a headache. (What’s going on with that background, Urban Enoteca?)
This Friday you might check out Varro, the new Italian bar on Capitol Hill. It has introduced a weekly something called Fellini Fridays, featuring giveways and food and drink specials. “Dress in your chic Italian threads,” instructs an announcement from the bar. Fellini Friday begins at 8pm.
Another Friday consideration: Miles Thomas is reportedly retiring from bartending. Not sure if he means retiring in the Jay-Z sense of that word or, like, actually retiring. Either way, this Friday May 13 is his last scheduled shift at the Hideout, and that should be fun.
Finally, on Sunday, May 15 there’s a tea ceremony demonstration in the third-floor tea room at the Seattle Art Museum downtown from 2:30–3:30 pm. It’s free with admission to the museum and it sounds like a lovely way to mellow out from all that drinking action.
