“It’s not a Cosmopolitan,” bartender Ryan Magarian told the Seattle Times’ Tan Vinh in 2009.

He was talking about the Last Word, a cocktail that Zig Zag’s Murray Stenson revived a few years back after discovering it in an old cocktail book called Bottoms Up!

Funny, then, that Cosmopolitan magazine included a recipe for a Last Word in a recent issue. But instead of gin, fresh lime juice, green Chartreuse, and maraschino liqueur—the ingredients most bartenders use to make the drink—the magazine suggests…well, look at the image attached.

I’m all for experimentation but no Chartreuse? And a spring of mint? I don’t even know this cocktail.
