Halloween Pub Crawl

Want to hit up all the best bar parties this Saturday? Here’s how to do it.

October 26, 2009

Are your socks wet too? There’s nothing quite like getting drenched by rain as you make your way to work in the dark. A Seattle Monday morning for the books, this one. Let’s distract ourselves by planning a little Halloween pub crawl, shall we? This Saturday, October 31st, many Seattle bars will be pulling out the stops to pull you into their establishments. Here’s how I suggest you handle it.

Start the night right outside the BottleNeck Lounge, where the Skillet airstream bus will begin serving its beloved burgers at 4pm. Then head inside for seasonal taps like Elysian Night Owl Pumpkin Ale and Spire Mountain Dark and Dry Cider. There’s a costume contest—honors will be awarded at 6pm.

While you are still sober enough to appreciate good art, head to Vermillion gallery/bar—a place that always feels to me like some magical party where everyone is at once interesting and approachable—to check out a one-night only show by City Market’s Cain Morehead.

By this point you might get hungry again, so it’s a good time to stop by Sazerac, where the ridiculously generous happy hour will be extended until 9pm. If you’ve gone nuts on the costume front, stick around: The winner of Sazerac’s costume contest will receive a free stay at the Hotel Monaco with Dinner at Sazerac.

Moving on to Belltown (love it or hate it, you don’t want to miss Halloween there) The Local Vine is having a hookers and pimps party in honor of the brothel that was recently uncovered upstairs. The festivities begin at 7pm, and the bar encourages customers to dress as their “favorite Madame or John.” Once again, there will be a costume contest (drawing begins at 9pm, prizes include free wine and wine classes).

I know it makes little sense to end the night in the bar that will serve you the best drinks, but Rob Roy’s Dark and Storm Party, hosted by Tino Umali and featuring a burlesque show, seems like an appropriate last stop. There will be yet another costume contest, “pirate-themed food,” and drink specials. (One assumes a rum theme, make sure you get a cocktail with the bar’s house-made dark falernum. Nine out of ten bar experts agree that it is totally delicious.)

Stay safe, and have an amazing Halloween.
