Hebb to the Bar

Turns out Drinking Lessons is a One Pot Collab.

August 11, 2009

The inventor of the cosmo to teach at Drinking Lessons, date TBD.

So when I mentioned those mixology classes at The Sorrento yesterday, I neglected to mention, since I didn’t know myself, that this was a Michael Hebb joint. Called Drinking Lessons, the classes are part of a One Pot/Sorrento collaboration entitled Night School. Here’s how it’s detailed in the One Pot press release.

“Night School at the Sorrento is a collaboration between The Sorrento, Michael Hebb, an array of intellectuals, artists, writers, filmmakers, mixologists, chefs and the leading cultural institutions in the Northwest.”

Neato. But all we know about so far is the “mixologists” bit. So let’s focus. We’ve already learned that Ryan Majarian will be teaching Aug 18th, at 5:30pm and again at 8, and Murray Stenson will be behind the bar on the 24th.

Meantime, bartender fanboys and girls, brace yourselves. Upcoming instructors include Alex Day of NYC’s Death and Co; Allen & Delancey, Jeffrey Morganthaler (Clyde Common in Portland), Jamie Boudreau (Tini Biggs, Canada), Toby Cecchini, the guy who, like, totally invented the Cosmopolitan, Lucy Brennan of Mint/820 in P-town, Kathy Casey, and Erik Hakkinen, of ZigZag. I mean, that’s a pretty damn impressive list, I’d say. Classes will fill up fast, so get on it, mixology friends, get on it.

Again, it’s $50 and $10 extra to get the cocktail book that will be generated from this little enterprise—the website Foodista will be there with staff on hand to publish the recipes in real time so folks can mix along at home.

As per the whole Night School thingamijig, I asked Michael Hebb for more information and maybe he’ll give it to me. If he does I’ll give it to you and together we’ll stay on top of it, okay? Bear with me.
