There’s happy hour news at Tavolàta and Union.

From 5-7pm daily (and again at Union from 10-closing) both restaurants are now offering $5 wines by the glass, $1 off draft beer, and $7 well martinis cosmos, manhattans, lemon drops, martinis, and other cocktails. Both HHs also feature ½ price small plates, which presents an excellent opportunity to try some of Ethan Stowell’s creations at a discount.

But let’s be serious, folks. This happy hour isn’t going to save us money. It’s going to lure us into Stowell’s dens of deliciousness and before we know it we’ll have consumed half the menu (including, if we’re talking Tavolàta, that $65 2lb t-bone) and three bottles of Barbaresco.

I’m still psyched and all, but if they start a happy hour program at Anchovies and Olives, I’ll be headed to debtor’s prison. Imagine stopping by for “just a cocktail,” then trying to sit and sip it while watching Stowell’s chefs shuck Shigokus and slice gorgeous slabs of escolar. Okay wow, I’m suddenly starving.
