The Weekend Buzz

Two new bars, a snuggie bar crawl, a cocktail competition…Get ready liver, it’s gonna be a big one.

April 24, 2009

It’s going to be a busy weekend of drinking, so let’s get started. Tonight from 7pm-9pm in Ballard, the Ballard Loft will be giving away a free drink to anyone who 1. wears a blanket with arms, and 2. brings canned food to donate to Northwest Harvest. It’s all part of the Seattle Snuggie Pub Crawl, which, after leaving the Loft, will make its cozy way over to the new-ish Moshi Moshi (see Kathryn Robinson’s review here), then Wingmasters, and on to Conor Byrne.

Meanwhile in Fremont: new bar Sinners and Saints celebrates a soft opening (unlock front door, see what happens) this Friday. Part-owner Steve Madriaga told me the bar will offer a temporary menu of “Latin sandwiches.” One of these will be composed of beef tongue, a meat said to pair deliciously with high-end tequilas, of which the bar will feature 16. Once Sinners is up and running, it will serve Spanish tapas—Madriaga listed marinated olives, chorizo and…mac and cheese. Hmmm. A Fremonter himself, Madriaga said he and his three partners wanted to “fill a void in the neighborhood” by creating a watering hole with “almost a coffee house vibe.” So, what does that all add up to? I’m not sure either. Guess we should go check it out and see.

Across the bridge in West Seattle, the concept is a little clearer at Feedback Lounge, which goes live on Saturday night. The “rock n roll” club has a “Whammy Bar” full of guitar-o-mobelia, television monitors looping concert footage of Led Zeppelin and Chuck Berry, and a “Sunndeck” overlooking the parking lot—“so named,” according to the Feedback’s Web site, “in tribute to Sunn Amplifiers, the loud-making amp of choice of The Who and the Pacific Northwest’s very own Kingsmen.” That’s just the beginning. This place is a must-visit, if nothing else then for the WTF factor.

If you feel a little tuckered out by Sunday, tighten up. Because you still have Iron Bartender II, Ladies Edition, and the benefit for Cavy at Brouwers to attend. Enjoy the sunshine.
