For anyone looking to nerd out on absinthe facts and history, the Wormwood Society’s website is a must visit. I first learned about Wormwood while editing Anna Roth’s piece on absinthe for the January issue. Based in Seattle, it’s an international advocacy group that’s been working to get the spirit on bar shelves for years (not to mention, I imagine, throwing strange and wonderful speakeasy-style parties).

I recommend, in particular, a peruse through the historical documents—the green fairy’s legal troubles are legion, and totally fascinating. (For example: it was wine producers, tired of the spirit moving in on their market, who lobbied to make absinthe illegal in France). Also not to be missed: the bio page featuring photos of Wormwood’s quirky founders and staff.
