Taste of the Town

Klebeck’s guilty food pleasure: Veggie Booty. Everyone else’s: Top Pot.
You’d think a person who produces a million donuts a week would either be sick of eating them or 20 pounds overweight. Mark Klebeck is neither. The co-founder of Seattle juggernaut Top Pot Doughnuts still relishes his daily deep-fried fix, working off the calories during long-distance runs.
Next stop, street food: Top Pot recently purchased a 1961 Airstream Bambi trailer, large enough to transport 100 dozen donuts. Look for Bambi on Saturday, Sept 19 at Husky Stadium, when the Dawgs take on the Trojans.
Here, Mark Klebeck shares his favorite foodie finds.
Ingredient of the Moment
Pumpkin, since we’re going into fall. We use real pumpkin in the mix of the pumpkin old-fashioned.
Restaurant
Macchiavelli. They were the pioneers of the Pike/Pine corridor. I’ve been going there since my dad was still alive back in 1989. Hands down they have the best filet mignon ever. Something about the sauce is just incredible. If I was on death row, it would definitely be my last meal.
Cookbook
My wife Libby’s tattered binder of recipes. It’s a collection of family recipes or things she’s just thrown together. She’s a great cook.
Guilty Food Pleasure
We have two little boys, Wolfgang and Otto. When Libby goes to get their Veggie Booty, a popcorn snack with kale on it, I’ve always already eaten it. It’s like crack.
