Monday Morning Pick-Me-Up: Have Yourself a Deep Sea Diver Christmas
SONIC SEASON'S GREETINGS
Does your holiday playlist need a little jolt? Seattle's own Deep Sea Diver is here to help. Last week the band released the It's Christmas Time EP, a four-song collection which includes Christmas classics like "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" and "The First Noel." You needn't worry if Christmas shopping has depleted your budget, as it's a name your own price album. The EP is a great little gift to hold us over until Deep Sea Diver's sophomore LP Secrets drops on February 19.
ALIENS EXIST
While Ryan Gosling hosted Saturday Night Live last week, Kate McKinnon was the star. In the best sketch of the show, she, Gosling, and Cecily Strong played recent alien abductees being questioned by the NSA. While Gosling and Strong's characters had transcendent, unimaginably blissful experiences, McKinnon's gruff Ms. Raftery dealt with sketchy "super off the books" alien sexual harassment. The script and her delivery had Gosling and the other cast members trying to not break character while cracking up in hysterics. They did not succeed.
SOARING HAWKS
Nothing seems to be slowing down Russell Wilson and the Seahawks these days. Yesterday, the Hawks rolled in to Minneapolis and trounced the Minnesota Vikings (a probable playoff team) 38-7. Wilson once again stole the show, throwing for 3 touchdowns, running for another TD, and making defenders just look silly with spin moves along the way. He might be the hottest player in the NFL right now.
The Seahawks seem to have once again established themselves as one of the top three teams in the NFC (alongside the Carolina Panthers and Arizona Cardinals). And while the road to Super Bowl 50 won't go through CenturyLink Field this year because of the team's early season shakiness, none of the higher seeds want to be matched up against Wilson and the Legion of Boom come playoff time.
**SPIN MOVE ALERT** Russell Wilson puts the Vikings D on skates for a wild Seahawks 1st Down. #SEAvsMIN https://t.co/cporlSzdwM

LISTENING TO MUSIC FOR LISTENING TO MUSIC TO
La Sera's Katy Goodman can see your eye rolls jaded rock dudes, but she's taking the high road. On "High Notes," the first single from her group's upcoming album Music for Listening to Music To, Goodman dreamily croons lines about be judged at shows by skeptical guys while her hubby Todd Wisenbaker moves the band's sound away from its former surf pop niche with some frenetic twangy guitar picking. The sonic shift may have something to do with the album being produced by Ryan Adams (Wisenbaker and Adams jamming led to the 1989 cover album), and we're excited to see what the rest of the record has in store when it arrives next March.
