Monday Morning Pick-Me-Up: Odesza and Lip Reading

Plus, 'Key and Peele,' Bully, Adrian Beltre, and more.

AMERICAN POLITICAL DISCOURSE

As one of the most consistent forces for comedic good on the Internets, everything the folks over at Bad Lip Reading create is worth a watch. The latest Bad Lip Reading video turns its focus to the first Republican presidential debate. Come for the Chris Christie's love of "regular potatoes" as a snack, stay for the utterly brilliant closing statements in the form of a song.

TURN ON THE BRIGHT "LIGHT"

It's hard to overstate the local popularity of Seattle electronic duo Odesza. After scheduling two shows in December at the Paramount Theatre and selling them out in short order, the group added a third gig last week. It's already sold out. For a little perspective, the other act playing three straight sold out shows at the Paramount this year is Death Cab for Cutie. In other Odesza news, the group announced it will release a deluxe edition of 2014's In Return LP on September 18. The rereleased version will feature instrumental versions of every track, three live versions of songs, and a unreleased collaborative track with Swedish electronic band Little Dragon called "Light." Stream the new song to get hyped for the upcoming Odesza shows (assuming you were lucky enough to snatch a ticket).

(UNEXPECTED) GAME ON

Apparently Chatroulette is still a thing! Even better, the users of the site for randomly video chatting are not all weird naked people. U.K. production studio Realm Pictures recently created a one-of-a-kind Chatroulette experience/performance project where the strangers they happened to connect with were dropped into live-action first person shooter video game and given control of the character via voice commands. With zombies, rocket launchers, hidden secrets, and elaborate set pieces, the game ended up actually being more intense and compelling than any recent Call of Duty title.

HEY NAH!

I can't be the only one in complete denial about the impending end of Key and Peele. The uproariously funny sketch comedy series only has one more month of shows left (four episodes) before its final episode. I will miss thee, valets, absurdly named football playersMr. Garvey, and Obama anger translator Luther. Where else could viewers find out the (imagined) truth behind the rift between Outkast's Big Boi that involves a coffee shop, pinwheel, a Peter Pan hat, and a green latte in a vase? Where, I ask you?!?

THIS WEEK IN MARINERS SADNESS

I really miss Adrian Beltre. He's very good at baseball, but more importantly, he's completely ridiculous. Y'all didn't appreciate him enough.

LISTEN + WATCH

Looking for a late summer rock spark? Give Feels Like—the debut LP by Nashville's Bully—a spin. With her unkempt vocal ferocity, frontwoman Alicia Bognanno calls to mind a certain hellrasing former Seattleite from the grunge age (rhymes with "Thwart-thee Dove"). Feels Like easily slots in as one of the better rock records put out this year. As proof, I present the band's performance of "Trying" on last Tuesday's episode of Conan.
