Monday Morning Pick-Me-Up: Comedians Get "Torn" and Punk Miley Cyrus

Plus, Mother's Day and the most improbable sequence in baseball history

Natalie ImBruGLIHAHAHA I'm not saying that only comedians should be allowed to make music videos, but after seeing what Kurt Braunohler did for indie rocker Mikal Cronin, they should probably at least make most of them. The clip for "Turn Around" from Cronin's new album MCIII is a shot-for-shot-ish comedic remake of Natalie Imbruglia's mildly iconic 1997 video for "Torn." The video stars Kristen Schaal in the brooding Imbuglia role opposite Braunohler, while including their terrific comedy pals like Paul Scheer, Jonah Ray, and Rory Scovel. It's got it all: Brilliant absurdity, a dash of nostalgia, the Kool-Aid Man...

Belated HAPPY STEVE HARVEY DAY Sometimes it's hard to say what you really mean and share your true feelings, even on Mother's Day...

'Pretty Good' Is Pretty GOOD If you're not familiar with sportswriter Jon Bois, he's one of the funniest people on the Internet. Between his acclaimed SB Nation series Breaking Madden (you might remember the Marshawn Lynch episode) and the near perfect stupidity of Bois's Twitter feed, there's plenty of guffaws to be had. Last week he introduced his new web series, Pretty Good. The first episode focuses on a singular amazing (err... pretty good) moment delivered by Mets relief pitcher Koo Daw-Sung in 2005. I won't spoil it, but it's arguably the most improbable two-play sequence in Major League Baseball history, and Bois drives it home in a way that's both funny and strangely touching.

LISTEN + WATCH While the twerking and naked wrecking ball riding have led many to unfairly dismiss Miley Cyrus (seriously, she's got some great songs, y'all), she's slowly (and relatively quietly) become the most interesting pop star around. She recently started the Happy Hippie Foundation, a charity devoted to helping homeless LGBT youth. To get the word out about the organization, she's started jamming with some unexpected folks. Last week she released a video where she covers "Androgynous" by iconic alt-rock band the Replacements (!) with Joan Jett (!!) and Laura Jane Grace of Against Me! (!!!). Fingers crossed, maybe Miley will even carry some of these punk vibes over onto her next record.
