James McBride
After beginning his career as a journalist, James McBride burst onto the literary scene with his memoir, The Color of Water, an instant classic about growing up biracial with a white mother in New York City. He’s yet to miss the mark since. His most recent novel, The Good Lord Bird, took home the National Book Award for its surprisingly comedic portrayal of a slave who becomes entangled with famed abolitionist John Brown. Blood Squad: Victorian Ripper Slasher and Deep Space Terror
For the first time ever, horror/comedy improv group Blood Squad joins up with the Annex Theatre to bring a night of gore, chills, and laughs. Their double feature will inlude two performances of horror that span totally different genres: Dickens-era murder tales and spooky science fiction. While Blood Squad is known to shoot for the silly over the truly terrifying, viewer digression is strongly advised. Annex Theatre, $17.
