Yay. But let's start at the beginning: Yes, AMC's Seattle-set crime drama The Killing will return for a third season, and no, it will not be on Netflix. It has officially been uncanceled, AMC and Fox Television Studios announced last month, with Veena Sud returning as executive producer, writer and showrunner along with actors Mireille Enos (as brooding cop Sarah Linden) and Joel Kinnaman (as brooding cop Stephen Holder). Production starts in Vancouver, BC—a filmmaker's favorite substitute for Seattle—on February 25.

So...what? They pulled the plug for a few good reasons—declining ratings, the resolution of the show's original murder mystery—but the producers have a plan in place for a proper resurrection. Season 3 opens a year after closing the Rosie Larsen case. According to AMC: "Sarah Linden is no longer a detective. But when her ex-partner Stephen Holder's search for a runaway girl leads him to discover a gruesome string of murders that connects to a previous murder investigation by Linden, she is drawn back into the life she thought she'd left behind."

And they've hired film actor Peter Sarsgaard as a new villain: death-row inmate Tom Seward, whose "clock is ticking down. A lifelong convict born into poverty and crime, Seward's been in and out of the system for violent crimes since he was 10. Not ever wanting to appear weak, every interaction is a challenge, and one he must dominate." Ha. Seriously though, Sarsgaard is a respected character actor who does dark and troubled very well. This is an exciting hire for AMC, who've already added Elias Koteas (you may know him from The Curious Case of Benjamin Button; we know him from the live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) and Max Fowler to the cast. The premiere date is still TBD.
