Books on the Bus livens up the daily commute.

Books on the Bus, the quarterly book club for local Metro riders, is about to have its first meetup, and there are some big-deal writers invited. This isn't your ordinary book club; you'll actually be having a thoughtful conversation about the first selection, Hotel Angeline. Though who knows, maybe after a couple glasses of wine, you could get Garth Stein to gossip about the Beacon Hill PTA.

From the organizers: "Next week, we're hosting our first Books on the Bus event [at Richard Hugo House], a celebration and discussion of our summer selection, Hotel Angeline. There will be refreshments, mingling and a short reading followed by a moderated discussion with several of the novel's authors: Garth Stein, Nancy Rawles, Jennie Shortridge, Sean Beaudoin, Karen Finneyfrock, Peter Mountford, Dave Boling, Indu Sundaresan, and Stacey Levine. We'll also announce our fall selection, a book that we're really excited to share with all of you. Doors open at 7, and the program starts at 7:30."

Just a reminder that half the proceeds from book sales supports local literacy nonprofits: this year, Powerful Schools and 826 Seattle.
