It often seems that dads get the short end of the stick when it comes to parental holidays. While Mother’s Day involves grand brunches and flowers and gestures, Father’s Day often ends up as nothing more than a lazy Sunday hanging around the house. But not this year. Here are five things to do with Dad this weekend that he’ll probably enjoy more than a mimosa-filled brunch anyway.

For the Gearhead

If Dad spends his weekends tinkering away in the garage, he’d love the automotive beauty on display at the newly opened America’s Car Museum in Tacoma. The collection features cars from the early 1900s (Ford Model Ts, a Stanley Steamer, etc.), race cars (Lotus 35), and even The Flintstones’ foot-mobile used in the live-action movie. The scope of the collection, spread out across a massive 165,000-square-foot facility, should satisfy any car fanatic, no matter what type of vehicle revs his engine.

For the Pa Who Plays Catch

A Sunday at the ballpark with Dad always qualifies as quality time, so consider taking him to see the Mariners take on the San Francisco Giants at Safeco Field. Though the Mariners aren’t topping the standings, at least they’ve been interesting recently. The team’s combined no-hitter last weekend against the Dodgers was an awesome oddity and the offense has actually scored some runs of late (!). Felix Hernandez is set to take the hill for Sunday’s game and the first 10,000 men in the park receive a Mariners fishing cap.

For the Thirsty Man

Forget lounging around the house with a six-pack. With nearly 200 beers on tap from 64 breweries, the Washington Brewers Festival at Marymoor Park is the perfect place to take beer lovers this weekend. While he’s sipping on his suds, he can check out live music or the keg-tossing competition. And because this festival is an all-ages event on Saturday and Sunday, dads can still spend time with their kids (or grandkids) while enjoying a cold one.

For the Jokester

If Dad fancies himself a cutup, return the gift of laughter by taking him to see Brian Posehn at the Neptune Theatre on Friday night (performing two sets: 8 and 10:30). His humor manages to be very dude-centric (his last album was called Fart and Wiener Jokes ) without ever stooping to the Dane Cook-level of frat boy stupidity and misogyny. In addition to being a cast member on The Sarah Silverman Program and Mr. Show, Posehn was also one of the original members of the Comedians of Comedy along with Patton Oswalt, Zach Galifianakis, and Maria Bamford. That’s quite the peer group.

For the Dad Who Never Stopped Rocking

Did Dad’s vinyl records have a sneaky way of ending up "lost" (on your turntable)? If so, make up for it by taking him to see John Fogerty at Chateau Ste. Michelle on Saturday. Fogerty’s hit-filled set should include solo gems like "Centerfield" and Creedence Clearwater Revival classics like "Born on the Bayou" and "Fortunate Son." Dad, like Fogerty, will never be too old to rock.
