It’s Earth Day! Eat Mushrooms!

Master forager Langdon Cook talks about the art of sustainable living (and plucking fungi) at Seward Park.

By Laura Dannen April 22, 2010

Not only will Cook tell you which mushrooms are edible—he’ll give you a recipe.

Don’t confuse foragers with primal hunter-gatherers (and please don’t confuse them with dumpster divers). Seattleite Langdon Cook still enjoys a pint of beer or a restaurant meal—but he’s also versed in the art of collecting his own ingredients from the wild. He documents those food-foraging quests in his 2009 book Fat of the Land, which he will talk about at Seward Park tonight from 7-8:30. (It’s free!) If you’re looking for ways to honor Earth Day, consider stopping by to hear his thoughts on sustainable living. You might leave with a risotto recipe using mushrooms from the forest floor—and an earful about squid jigging.
