Just saw this over on NYTimes.com: Conan O’Brien will host a late-night show on TBS starting in November, pitting him head-to-head with new archnemesis (my words, not his) Jay Leno at 11pm. Comedian George Lopez, who’s currently in the 11pm spot on TBS weeknights, will get bumped to midnight.
According to the Times blog, Conan had been in negotiations with Fox, and seemed almost certain to host a show there starting in fall/winter 2010. But maybe all this non-network freedom has Conan thinking, "Once you stop being a hack, you never go back." It freed him up to do his Legally Prohibited from Being Funny on Television tour, which stops in Seattle on April 18 and 19. And now he’ll bring some additional cred to the comedy-centric branch of Turner Entertainment Networks, which already gets big points in my book for running repeats of The Office right around when I want to use the treadmill at the gym. Cheers to TBS.
UPDATE: As of Wed 11am PT, tickets were still available to Conan’s Spokane show on April 16.
