Tacos La Cuadra Carves Out Space in Ballard and Six More Local Restaurants Expand

Hungry for news? Welcome to our Friday Feed, where we run through all the local food and restaurant news this week—and maybe help you figure out where to eat this weekend.
Gone Fishing
Tom Douglas Restaurants’ Seatown Rub Shack and Fish Fry in the Pike Place Market is getting phased out (currently serving on the patio only) and will soon become Mr. Fish. The new spot, opening in May, will focus on local seafood with a Dungeness crab feast, local oysters, and the Buoy Bar.

Hello, Robin
It’s been a few months since we heard Model Restaurant Group (the guys behind Greenwood American Bistro) had taken over the former Art of the Table space in Fremont, but Robin’s Restaurant & Market is now open. The all-day café serves breakfast sandwiches, including one on Brazilian pão de queijo, bowls, and hearty entrées like pork chops and slow-roasted salmon.
Ballard Fire Department
- Wrong kind: Fairly new live-fire cooking specialist Eldr unfortunately had a run-in with a less controlled type of fire last week. Authorities are investigating the cause of the blaze. The restaurant said it’s believed it could be related to electrical failure. Unfortunately, the space will be closed for the foreseeable future as they figure out what it will take to repair.
- Like a phoenix: Almost a year after a gas explosion and fire rocked Take 5 Urban Market, the neighborhood deli known for its excellent reuben is set to reopen next week.
- Canal Crossing: Rooftop Brew Co., which lost its North Queen Anne location last August to a fire, will take over Maritime Pacific’s Jolly Roger Taproom and the brand itself. Maritime Pacific’s owners are retiring, and Rooftop will continue to brew both its own and Maritime’s signature beers.

Expansion Joints
-
Can’t stop this trompo: Late-night street stand Tacos La Cuadra went steady last month with a fixed location in Kent, and it continues to expand, this time to Ballard. The al pastor specialist has filed business and liquor license permits to take over the space recently vacated by Maíz, née Sazón. Opening, per their Instagram, próximamente—soon.
A peek at Sabine's Bellevue digs.
- Eastward bound: Ballard’s Sabine Café announced its second location, a 3,000-square-foot space on the ground floor of Bellevue’s forthcoming 25-story office tower the Eight. Like the Ballard original, it will be an all-day café drawing on Mediterranean and Pacific Northwest cuisine. Don’t get too excited yet, Eastsiders: It's aiming for an early 2026 opening.
- Old pergola, new trick: Molly Moon Ice Cream announced its upcoming 10th scoop shop, this one located in the Washington Street Boat Landing pergola. The local ice cream business will operate from the 1920 iron and steel structure, built for the city’s harbormaster starting April 25.
- Another scoop? In other frozen dessert news, My Ballard reports that Nutty Squirrel Gelato will take over the recently vacated D’Ambrosio Gelato This will be the local shop’s third location, after Greenwood and Magnolia.
- Another revolution: Kura Revolving Sushi Bar landed with a splash in 2021 when it opened its first location in Bellevue. Last year, a second location of the semi-automated sushi spot came to Tacoma, and this weekend a third will open in Lynnwood’s H Mart Plaza. The restaurant prides itself on “eater-tainment” and boasts a drink-serving robot, double-decker sushi conveyor belt, and prizes.
Oh, BTW, here’s what you missed last week.
