This ninth-annual festival draws crowds with free lunch, kayak rides, live music, kids activities, and more fun while emphasizing the need for the river's restoration. Local celebrity Macklemore has been giving the river some major love and bringing details of its decline to the media's attention lately.

The Duwamish was named for the Native Americans who inhabited the land before Seattle was settled. Head over to the festival for some fun and to learn how you can get involved in cleanup efforts.

National Secondhand Wardrobe Day

Okay so this is an unofficial holiday, but it reminded us of an event that is happening in a couple of weeks. The Seattle Children's Consignment Event is open for registration and what better way to reuse and recycle than by consigning outgrown clothes. 

The event is September 6-7 but register soon, because volunteers, consignors, new moms, and military families have access to the pre-sale.

This allows people to shop the secondhand items before the public. Seattle natives should know that less waste is always a good idea.
