Everyone here already knows it: Seattle is a sanctuary city. Now Visit Seattle is making sure the rest of the world knows it, too.
Mayor Ed Murray asked locals to step outside and hold up a candle (or a rose-gold iPhone 7) on February 1 in support of immigrants and refugees, demonstrating that the city of Seattle has widespread opposition to blanket travel bans. The city's nonprofit marketing organization, Visit Seattle, compiled images from the event and got a tune from Macklemore, the city's resident provider-of-inspirational-activism-soundtracks.
The video, featuring a "Same Love" arrangement, isn't Visit Seattle's only foray into filmmaking—they just launched five short films at Sundance Film Festival. Between filing lawsuits against the president and rubbing elbows with indie movie stars in Park City, is it too soon to name Seattle the "It" city of the decade?
