You can't keep a good golf resort down. Semiahmoo Resort, which closed late last year, was sold today for $19.5 million to a new partnership that hopes to get the place up and running by the end of summer.

Semiahmoo, whose name comes originally from the Coast Salish language, is located on a spit of land on Semiahmoo Bay just outside Blaine, better known as the town at the U.S.–British Columbia border crossing. Its two golf clubs have remained active since the 200-room hotel closed in December, leaving 300 people without jobs. At that time, the majority owner was the Upper Skagit Indian Tribe, and they'd been trying to sell the resort for years.

Today's announcement is that the purchasing group includes the same folks that own Cedarbrook Lodge in SeaTac; the Coastal Hotel Group that runs that property will also manage the new Semiahmoo 2.0. Stuart Rolfe, president of the new partnership's managing member, says he hopes to hire staff and open hotel doors before the end of this summer season.

One of the only concrete signs of what's to come is the word that the culinary director of Cedarbrook's Copperleaf Restaurant and Bar, Roy Breiman, will be in charge of developing the new Semiahmoo's eateries. Seattle Met food critic Kathryn Robinson reviewed Copperleaf in January 2012.

The resort also includes a large spa, which Rolfe plans to update. After all, the ultimate resort trifecta is golfing, dining, and really indulgent spa-going.
