Save a Few Bucks on Fourth of July Plans

Skip town and score some deals on the next holiday weekend.

How much do you love America, Seattle? Enough to celebrate, right?

There’s still a week to go before the midsummer bash of July 4. There will be plenty of fireworks in town, but some of us are like golden retrievers and would rather hide under the bed than put up with the booming and the bright lights. Here’s a few ways to save on a weekend away:

Alderbrook Resort and Spa
Where Halfway up Hood Canal, the hotel sits on the waterfront and specializes in spa treatments and local hiking. And it’s only an hour and a half from Seattle.
Bonus For $25 per person, the resort’s cruise boat will give you a ride over to Hoodsport for a fireworks show, lots of food, and a cash bar.

Where The Blaine waterfront resort is so close to Canada that you can smell the maple syrup, but you don’t need a passport to take in the golf and spa-going.
Bonus Score a room and two tickets to a BBQ, complete with live music and fireworks, for $179. At the BBQ, remember: eating a burger makes you an American, but eating salmon makes you a Northwesterner. Choose wisely.

Suncadia Resort
Where It’s on the sunny side of the mountains, just before Cle Elum on I-90. There’s golf, dining, boating, and numerous other things you can do while wearing a polo shirt.
Bonus If you extend a stay in the resort for four nights, your last one comes at half off. No one’s really going to be doing work on July 5, anyway.

Whistler Blackcomb
Where Summer is a great time to hit British Columbia’s biggest ski resort (really). If you’re feeling a little grumpy about America—it happens to the best of us—why not try something north of the border?
Bonus It’s Canada Day weekend, too, so you can score your third night free at resort properties and get $8 off the peak-to-peak gondola ticket.
