9 Spring Makeup Essentials

Local makeup artists share their beauty must-haves for this season.

“Vita Liberata Self Tanning Night Moisture Mask ($45, Sephora) is extremely hydrating and gives a natural-looking tan. It has a subtle fragrance and it’s non-transferring so it won’t get on your pillow or clothing. I love waking up with a natural-looking glow that is free of streaks and lines.”

“Make the switch from a heavy full-on foundation to a lighter formula such as a tinted moisturizer or a BB or CC cream. One of my favorite spring foundations is Estée Lauder Double Wear Light Stay in Place Makeup ($38, Nordstrom). It gives a beautiful full coverage without the heavy makeup texture.”

“I like to add a dime-size drop of Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Liquid ($41, Sephora) to my moisturizer for a dewy natural glow. You want to massage the product into the skin for at least 30 seconds. By doing this, you are activating the product and getting it into the skin so the makeup will settle into your hydrated skin as opposed to sitting on top of the lotion. I also use this product as a highlighter on the cheekbones, bridge of the nose, brow bone, and cupid’s bow.”

“One of the easiest ways to brighten your complexion is with a pop of bright color on the lips. Everyone looks great in a pink-coral tone but if you don’t want to overdo it, choose a sheer gloss. NYX has an amazing variety of colors and textures from super matte to sheer and shimmery including the Soft Matte Lip Cream ($5.99, Target ).”

“The simplest way to warm up your skintone is with a bronzer. Bobbi Brown and MAC are two of my favorite brands for bronzing products. A great trick is to apply a brightly colored blush to the apples of the cheek and then sweep your bronzer over the top to give your skin that ‘glowing from within’ look. Try Bobbi Brown Bronzing Powder ($42, Nordstrom).”

“All the spring shows celebrated clean fresh skin. Glosses are huge this season and I currently love Marc Jacobs Beauty Enamored High Shine Gloss Lip Lacquer Lipgloss ($28, Sephora), especially the shade Love Drunk which is a perfect nude for women of color.”

“Aqua eyes were everywhere on this season's catwalks. A cobalt blue liner gives a hint of color that looks both modern and clean.” Try MAC Technakohl in Take The Plunge ($16.50, Nordstrom ).

“Beautycounter Lip Sheers ($30) are amazing and have a great color payoff for a sheer texture. They feel really hydrating on the lips. My favorite shade is Scarlet, which is a perfect strawberry red that looks great against clean skin and bare eyes.”

“You can often tell that the seasons are changing based on how dry your lips are. My go-to product for myself, my clients, and models on set is Lush Mint Julips Lip Scrub ($9.95, Lush). It leaves your lips feeling extremely hydrated and glowing. Best of all, it removes any dry patches so your lip product will glide right on.”

As the seasons change, so should your makeup.
