IDRS Files: Tom Ordonio
September 8, 2014

Ordonio's fall/winter 2013 collection was designed as part of his final collection at New York Fashion Academy. This all-leather look stems from that collection: a sleeveless, leather cheetah-print top paired with skinny leather pants.

"My goal is to always keep the woman in mind when I am designing clothing," he tells us. "I want her to feel like she can take on the world." Shown here is his faux fur cropped jacket and burgundy stretch satin tuxedo pant.

"Glamorous, sexy, strong—these are all elements that I strive to incorporate into my clothing," Ordonio tells us.

"I love this picture of Lauren Hutton from the late 70's. I love this era really, but she epitomized glamour and sexiness for me and has a really approachable, fun spirit. I love the idea of glamour done in a modern way for today."

"I also love this picture of Grace Jones by Jean Paul Goude. Again, I'm inspired by her spirit. She was completely unconventional for her time, and still is."

"I would love to dress Tilda Swinton. She's also a bit unconventional and is willing to experiment and try new things when it comes to fashion. For me, she's a modern day heroine."

"There tends to be a little bit of darkness in my clothing, but hopefully in a beautiful way." Here we see Ordonio's high neck faux fur coat, seemingly an extension of his faux fur cropped jacket, paired with a metallic clutch.

Aberdeen has a knack for producing rock stars. Ordonio moved from the small town to Seattle for college, graduating from Ballard's New York Fashion Academy. Backed by an education of fashion history as well as design, he borrows ideas from the past, remolding glamor in a modern, wearable way.
