Like many designers before her, Heather Blanchard was drawn into a life of design because she saw a void in the market. She created Sarsen after a decade of retail work, and now focuses on sophistication and craftsmanship. Blanchard says her line is, "sleek, simple, and stark."
The Seattle native says inspiration is all around her. “Growing up in Seattle helped create my darker, moody aesthetic," she says.
Sarsen's fall 2014 collection debuts at the upcoming Bellevue Collection Independent Designer Runway Show on September 25.
Who does your hair?
Lindsey Phelps at Gary Manuel Salon. She has been doing my hair for 10 years and I will never let anyone else cut it!
What item of clothing or accessory has been in heavy rotation this month?
Anything moto. Knit moto jackets, pants, and I can't wait until it's cool enough to wear leather and all my Sarsen hoodies and jackets. I've been waiting for months to wear them! Also I have an arrow necklace that I never take off.
Favorite coffee shop or café?
Espresso Vivace has a great atmosphere and their staff is always friendly. It doesn't hurt that the coffee is excellent as well.
My husband and I love Palisade in Magnolia. They have amazing seafood and a great view of Puget Sound.
Where'd you go the last time you got out of town?
My last short trip was for my sister's wedding in Sedona, Arizona. It was beautiful! I also went on a bigger vacation to the Caribbean with my husband and some friends. So relaxing and beautiful.
Soundtrack for a Sunday afternoon?
I listen to the blues program on KEXP every Sunday. I love the blues and they play fantastic mixes of the classics and some more obscure songs as well.
Seattleite you'd most like to meet?
I have been so lucky to meet so many talented and artistic people in Seattle but I would love to meet Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. It is so exciting to see another local so in love with this city and promoting everything we are about!
