Seattle Designer Series

Local stylist hosts monthly designer popup shops during Ballard’s Art Walk.

By Amanda Austin July 6, 2012

World traveller-turned-swimsuit designer Shannon Moe of Ilha Swimwear will be the first designer featured in Seattle Designer Series, an upcoming subset of the month

WHERE: Local stylist and reseller Tannya Bernadette’s studio in Ballard

WHAT: Bernadette, a personal shopper and supporter of local design, feeds off of the energy and ample foot traffic of the Ballard Art Walk to spotlight local designers in monthly installments. In partnership with the Seattle branch of the women’s business network FemCity and fashion marketing pro Cynarah Ellawala, she’s all about promoting local female entrepreneurs in the fashion scene.

Collections on rotation, in order of their appearances through the winter, include hand-sewn, globally-inspired swim suits from Ilha Swimwear, industrial tough/chic accessories from Detroit-native Jessica Park’s Ampersand as Apostrophe, romantic and feminine designs by Cameron Levin, modern silhouettes and hand-made knits by Masha Osoianu, cocktail and evening wear by Kate Mensah of Kreati-Ka, and shoes that unite glamor and comfort from the mother-daughter pair, Marca Shoes.

WHEN: The series introduces a new designer on every second Saturday of the month—July thru December—from 6 to 9. When in doubt, just check the Ballard Art Walk schedule and keep in mind that this series riffs off of that one. Each designer’s collection will stick around until the Tuesday prior to the next month’s second Saturday, and so on—though, whoa, you may not want to concern yourself with all those details.

Bottom line: The first featured shop, Shannon Moe’s Ilha Swimwear, pops up on Saturday, July 14. Here’s hoping it’ll be swimwear season by then.
