Checkerboard’s fine collection of wedding invitations has long been popular with style-savvy couples, but for many budget-conscious brides and grooms the company’s paper goods have been just beyond their reach. Until now. This week, Checkerboard unveiled Fusion Invitations, a more moderately priced line that promises to be the "Future of Inviting."

The Fusion collection features 20 affordable, customizable letterpress, thermography, and digital invitation suites, as well as matching accessories and keepsakes such as personalized ring pillows. Gayle O’Donnell, the owner of the Seattle-based invitation retailer Paper Passionista, says she was so pleased when she saw the Fusion line at the National Stationery Show earlier this year that she immediately placed an order. She says, ‘They had prototypes at the show, and they were really good-looking, good quality invitations, and priced very reasonably.’

But wait, there’s more: According to Checkerboard, the Fusion collection offers the class and sophistication of paper invitations, but also lets tech-savvy couples manage nearly everything else online—from addressing envelopes to tracking sent invites to managing RSVPs.

O’Donnell thinks Fusion is an attempt on Checkerboard’s part to create a line of invites that are more economic for couples but are just as elegantly composed as the company’s other collections. ‘In terms of everything you get for the price,’ O’Donnell says, ’it’s definitely going to be a popular seller. The Fusion line is going to serve that large underserved population: Those who want high quality for a lower price.’
