Night Moves

Shop local, shop late on Fashion’s Night Out.

Seattle gets in on Fashion’s Night Out (Bellevue Nordstrom will have the FNO tee-shirts pictured here; models Liya Kebede and Raquel Zimmermann sold separately).

Where: The Shops at the Bravern, Nordstrom in Bellevue, and Mario’s

What: Well, that’s a good question. Anna Wintour and company dreamt up Fashion’s Night Out last year as a way to drum up retail sales in New York. It spread, because retail sales could still stand some drumming up no matter where you are, and who doesn’t want to be part of the Vogue editor’s grand scheme to save the planet by shopping.

Still, I suppose that doesn’t quite answer the question. What is Fashion’s Night Out? And more to the point, what is it in Seattle and the Eastside?

The simplest answer is that the above mentioned shops will stay open later — until around 10 or 11, depending. (And about that I’ll say I don’t know how many times I’ve found myself in a conversation with a well-spent shopper about how great it would be if our favorite stores would at least keep the door propped til 8 or 9 every other Friday or so.) Trunk shows, demos, giveaways, sales, snacks, drinks, and various related activities are slated for these extended hours; it would be great if you wanted to pop in and purchase something. For those who really want in on all the stuff happening in New York, Neiman Marcus at the Bravern will be broadcasting some of it on a live stream hosted by the department store’s national creative director (and Burien native) Ken Downing.

When: Friday September 10
