Runway: Fashion Week ’10

It’s not Bryant Park, but it is Bellevue

By Laura Cassidy August 10, 2010

Where: Well, okay, Bryant Park isn’t even Bryant Park anymore now that New York Fashion Week has moved to Lincoln Center, but you get the picture.

Bellevue Collection’s Fashion Week revolves around Bellevue Square, Bellevue Place, and Lincoln Square and takes place at different spots around that trifecta of shopping — collectively known as the Bellevue Collection.

What: The Eastside shopping mecca’s style week includes beauty and grooming tutorials, special appearances by brand ambassadors, and yes, some runway shows. Most of the participating stores are national chain outlets such as Aldo, Aritzia, Macy’s, Eileen Fisher, J. Crew, Free People, and the Gap. Some locally based brands like Zebra Club, Mercer, and Report Shoes, as well as some Eastside salons such as Obadiah and 7 are also in on the action.

It’s okay to be dubious. Most of us are used to “fashion week” meaning top designers showcasing the coming season’s looks. This isn’t that. This is some shopping malls stirring up business and promoting their partners. And that’s okay. Just don’t go dead-set on catching some hot-shot unknown from Issaquah.

When: August 24-29
