Gift Bag: Chalk it Up

Invest in their future and reference the past with Seattle’s Ladies and Gentlemen Studios

December 8, 2009

If there’s a smarter, sweeter gift than a piggy bank this year, well, I don’t know of it. Doing double duty and qualifying as both Retro Cute and Actually Useful, these money-saving, make-you-smile devices make great gifts for all kinds of penny pinchers.

The piggy bank we featured here, on this month’s Spree page, is great for those anxious types who really want to see where their money is going. And the piggy bank pictured above is great for locavores, hyper-communicators, and super stylish home bodies. Produced by two Seattle-based designers who go by the handle Ladies and Gentlemen Studios, these little ceramic pals are coated in chalkboard paint and packaged with two pieces of chalk and a felt rag. Pennies not included.

I spotted the 401k alternatives at Far 4, where the past reconciles with the future in the most artful and chic ways. You can visit the L & G piggies, horses, and rabbits there (please note: only the piggy is also a bank), and, for the fun of it, you should cruise the design studio’s online home, vintage Etsy store, and blog, too.

Have you noticed that all the stuff in our Gift Bag thus far has local ties? Yeah, me too. If you missed any, check ’em out here, and keep checking in for more.
