Soft Art
Insomuch as we’ve come to accept the idea of a statement necklace (or a statement shoe or statement bag or a statement, you know, whatever), from time to time you might find yourself wanting to communicate via your accessories in a pliable, flexible tone. For such days, the local designer behind Orange Poppy offers many options.
Rebekah Gough once worked primarily with wire, but, in experimenting with upcycled fabrics, antique and vintage textiles, and millinery flowers and leaves, she found her true match. For Orange Poppy, her line of mostly necklaces and other pieces, she makes good use of ruffles, lace, silks, bows, and braiding.
The fall collection, available at Velouria, Crackerjack Crafts, and a few other brick and mortars shops in addition to her online boutique, is angled toward cable knit sweaters and tights, and boots and hats. The plaids and velvets seem to want school girl skirts, boyfriend button-downs (like these from A.P.C. at Totokaelo) and those tall lace-up Zeha Berlin boots at Lambs Ear.
Check out the Orange Poppy pieces in the slideshow here, and visit her online store for more. As the holidays approach (dear god I’m as bad as those Christmas displays at Target), look for rhinestones and other jazzy bits for party-goers and drama queens.
—And, should you want to customize your statement, why yes, Rebekah would be happy to craft something special just for you.
