Free, Really

Julep celebrates its new Eastside shop by giving you a free manicure

March 11, 2009

My dad raised my brother and I on the simple maxim that there is no free lunch. But I don’t know, Pop. That was then and this is now. Retailers are pretty generous when it comes to getting in front of you these days, as evidenced by this promotion at the soon-to-open Bellevue location of Julep Nail Parlor.

On Thursday 3/12 from 11 to 6, simply walk in to the storefront at 221 Bellevue Way NE, pick a shade (I’m thinking beigey-mauve, pale peach, something with a hint of lavender in it, or, you know, fire engine red), roll up your sleeves, and claim your free manicure. Well, okay okay – let me back up: Walk in with your fingers crossed. The giveaway happens on a first-come-first-served basis, and you know you are not the only one who is going to hear about this.

Now, I am my father’s daughter, so I do have to suggest that you give something back in exchange for those gorgeous nails. Revisit our recent cover package on the Eastside’s big boom and browse Kathryn Robinson’s restaurant picks for Bellevue, and see if you can’t find some locally owned Bellevue businesses to spend some scratch with.

(Image here is from a Vogue cover from 1939. Can you imagine Vogue putting a pair of hands on the cover in 2009? I swiped the scan from a blog called The Painted Woman. There aren’t even a dozen posts on the thing — it seems to have been abandoned back in ‘08 — but what’s there is worth checking out—if you like Art Deco-era beach pyjamas and inky, jet-black bobs.)
