Spring Training

February 12, 2009

I can hardly stand how beautiful it’s been lately. Okay, yeah, I guess by "lately" I mean yesterday and today but man. I really can hardly stand it. When it’s beautiful here, it’s more beautiful than it is anywhere else on earth, and it just makes me so ready for sunshine and warmth. Mind you—I’ll take sunshine in whatever form it wants to show up in, but spring is a month or so away, and that means warm weather isn’t far behind.

I’m officially psyched, and I’m celebrating with Wear What When’s Spring Training. Maybe daily, maybe every-other-daily, maybe erratically, I’ll post a picture or two (these are from style.com) until spring has officially sprung.

Today we’re going Halston. Say what you will about Liza Minelli and the overstated disco-era look, but I’ve loved everything about the return of the line in Fall 08. (Roy Halston Frowick died in 1990 and the house of Halston went dark; film producer Harvey Weinstein and Jimmy Choo founder Tamara Mellon turned the lights back on.) Current designer Marco Zanini has managed to stay true to the original Halston look without being cartoonish or overly retro.

True enough: I’m a sucker for free-shape silhouettes, big billow-y sleeves, and long draped legs (not to mention that gray shade of mauve and tie-dye), but I’d wear this stuff in a heartbeat. The jumpsuit would be a little tough—I guess I don’t know that I could actually pull it off, but the maxi-dress? A girl could eat an entire lasagna and lay around shuffling her iTunes all day in that thing. Heaven.

Can you get it in Seattle—or at least walk up to the stuff and touch it? Yep, at Nordstrom.
