The Ultimate Oceanfront Escape Awaits at Surfsand Resort
Every spring, thousands of tufted puffins book a stay at the Oregon Coast’s iconic Haystack Rock. After months spent on the open ocean, they rest their weary wings and spend the next few months (typically April through July) laying their eggs and raising their chicks.

Their appearance causes quite the commotion in the charming town of Cannon Beach. People from all around visit for a glimpse of these flamboyant, feathered friends, and in a similar manner, have only the best accommodation in mind. With top-tier amenities and a picturesque setting just steps from the sand, it’s easy to see why they choose Surfsand Resort.
The award-winning property truly is a destination well-suited to families. From the modern-cozy rooms to the lulling sound of crashing waves, it’s a place to relax, unplug, and create special memories together. Kiddos will have a blast flying a kite you rent from the concierge, enjoying a scoop at the ice cream social held every Saturday, or showing off their detective skills on the daily Surfsandollar Hunt. Whoever can find the one-of-a-kind, hand-made glass sand dollar hidden on the property (inside or outside, but never in the sand) not only gets to keep their treasure, but also earns themselves two free desserts. Pets are welcome too, with plenty of treats and tennis balls to keep their tails wagging.
Of course, Surfsand’s appeal extends to adults as well, with the indoor heated pool and hot tub and its 18-and-older only hours (7-8 a.m., 10-11 p.m.), local beer tastings on Fridays, and a celebratory package for lovebirds that includes a beautiful floral arrangement, fruit tray and chocolate ganache dip, and a bottle of Northwest wine or cider.
If you never want to leave — we don’t blame you, nor do you have to. Next door, Wayfarer Restaurant is the only place you can eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner in Cannon Beach, serving locally sourced ingredients expertly prepared in a scratch kitchen. Have a smoked salmon Benedict in the morning, a piping hot bowl of clam chowder later on, and finish the evening with oyster shooters and surf and turf. Or you could order it all as room service from the comfort of your bed.
When it is finally time to go out and explore, getting around town is simple. Beach cruiser bikes are provided to guests, as is a complimentary shuttle that takes you into town to do some shopping or dig deeper into the past at the Cannon Beach History Center & Museum. There are also several nearby hiking trails that unlock incredible scenery and a chance to breathe deep where forest fragrance meets salty air. A short drive south brings you to Oswald West State Park and its leisurely path along a creek to a secluded beach. Neahkahnie Mountain offers a chance to get your blood pumping with a more challenging 1,000-foot elevation gain.
However you spend your days at Surfsand Resort, there’s one bucket list activity everyone will appreciate. Weather permitting, bonfire butlers can build a crackling, private blaze for you on the beach, complete with s’mores fixings and marshmallow roasting sticks. During the summer season, there’s a nightly, communal bonfire too, perfect for swapping stories with fellow travelers who could just become fast friends.
