MOPOP Debuts Revamped Restaurant and Brand-New Bar Space

MOPOP celebrates 25 years with an updated Culture Kitchen and all-new upstairs bar, The Lounge—inviting guests to enjoy Pacific Northwest-inspired dishes, signature cocktails, and a vibrant new atmosphere.

For the past 25 years, Seattle’s Museum of Pop Culture (MOPOP) has been a home for all things music, film, fashion, and art—through legendary guitars, iconic costumes, unforgettable on-screen moments, and the stories that shaped them all. But now, as we mark this monumental milestone, the museum is serving culture in a new (and more delicious) way: through flavor.

Joining a larger slate of anniversary celebrations, MOPOP is reimagining how guests interact with the museum, transforming quick visits into full-day experiences thanks to a recently renovated restaurant and all-new upstairs bar to match.

Allow us to reintroduce the Culture Kitchen—MOPOP’s refreshed eatery, dishing out classic comfort food bursting with bold, seasonal PNW ingredients—and debut The Lounge, a second-floor hangout that brings MOPOP’s cultural spirit to the table through signature cocktails and mouthwatering bites.

“As we celebrate our 25th anniversary, we’ve made it a priority to enhance these areas to ensure they’re more accessible and better reflect the iconic Frank Gehry design,” says MOPOP CEO Michele Smith.

The Culture Kitchen embraces Seattle’s cool and creative aesthetic with a mélange of clean lines, natural elements, mood lighting worthy of a green room, and vaulted ceilings that echo the iconic curves of the building itself.

Upstairs, The Lounge takes the dining and drink experience up a notch, acting as the perfect pre- or post-exhibition destination for sips, snacks, and catching up. Plush booths invite you to settle in, while a wraparound wood bar and full wall of wine, beer, and cocktails beg for exploration. The ambiance is part speakeasy, part backstage pass—dimly illuminated, warm, and welcoming.

As for the menu? The Culture Kitchen stirs the pot, flips the script, and delivers Pacific Northwest-inspired comfort food, packed with seasonal bounty and bold, sustainable ingredients. Shareable plates and nostalgic nods abound—like carne asada fries loaded with Pico de Gallo, avocado, cheese, and pickled red onion, or the Hometown Burger featuring a grass-fed beef patty smothered in Beecher’s cheese fondue.

Craving something lighter? The MOPOKE, a king salmon bowl with edamame, cucumber, avocado, and your choice of greens or jasmine rice, never misses. “Museum food, at its best, should honor craft—the same way paintings do,” shares Executive Chef Athan Pixler. “It should tell you something about the place, the people, the rhythm of the land. It should have guts. Heart. Maybe a little funk. It’s no longer just about what’s on the wall. It’s about what’s on your plate—and who made it. This isn’t just lunch. It’s a curated experience.”

The Lounge menu channels MOPOP’s irreverent energy straight to the plate, with dishes organized like a concert lineup: “Opening Acts,” “Headliners,” and “Limited Releases.” It’s a celebration of flavor and flair—from Spring Beets and Puget Sound Dungeness Crab to the show-stopping pork and polenta, a limited-run dish featuring 150-day dry-aged pork with cocoa nibs, asparagus, and roasted tomato. And of course, no set is complete without a signature cocktail. We recommend the MOPOP25: a bold blend of Timberline Vodka, Hama Hama Douglas Fir Jelly Syrup, American Blanca Amaro, and La Gioiosa Prosecco. One sip, and you’re toasting the past, present, and future of pop culture—MOPOP style.

The best part yet? The Lounge is a venue just waiting to make private experiences pop. Whether you’re planning an industry mixer, a group luncheon, or looking to add a stylish space to a larger museum experience, The Lounge sets the stage for unforgettable moments. With a warm, open layout, the space buzzes with energy while still offering the intimacy needed for private gatherings, and customizable menus and curated beverage options make it easy to tailor every detail to your group’s unique vibe.
