The Face of Senior Living

Retired Special Ed teacher. Lifelong learner. Founding resident.
After eight years at Watermark communities in Tucson, Arizona and Oceanside, California, Janet and her husband moved to The Watermark at Bellevue to be closer to family—and to be part of something extraordinary.
“We saw what they were building here and said, ‘Ooh, let’s look at that.’ It’s absolutely stunning. Like living in a five-star hotel,” Janet says. “And it’s liberating—someone else takes care of everything.”
They moved in as “founders,” among the first 30 residents. Janet quickly immersed herself in the community—she now chairs the Lifelong Learning Committee, which organizes Watermark University courses from residents and local experts on topics ranging from Renaissance art to Blue Zones.
“We know everyone by first name. At dinner, we sit with friends and catch up. Staying connected is everything.”
From trivia nights and cherry blossom outings to a summer choir trip to the UK, life at Watermark is vibrant and enriching. Conveniently located near light rail, restaurants, shopping, and healthcare, the community is both urban and welcoming.
“The food is fabulous—there are three onsite restaurants. Occasionally I’ll cook, but it’s nice to just enjoy a meal and not do the dishes.”
Her advice for anyone hesitant about senior living? “Let go of the stuff. You won’t miss it. You’re not giving something up—you’re gaining a community.”
