Blaine by the Sea: Escape into Nature on the PNW Coast

Presented by Visit Bellingham May 16, 2025

For a relaxed vacation by the sea, discover Blaine, Washington. Located in the northwest corner of Washington State, Blaine is framed by snow-capped Mt. Baker to the east and Semiahmoo Bay and the Georgia Strait to the west.

Summer is an especially lively time in Blaine, with community events that celebrate the town’s welcoming spirit and seaside charm. Don’t miss WECU’s Old-fashioned Fourth of July—2025 marks Blaine’s 249th year celebrating with a parade, fireworks, and family-friendly festivities.

In August, the Drayton Harbor Pirate Festival offers swashbuckling fun. The town also hosts Movies in the Park and Splash Days, where kids can enjoy sprinklers set up downtown.

For a stress-free stay in Blaine, book a stay at Semiahmoo Resort, Golf, and Spa. Situated on the tip of Semiahmoo Spit, this casual waterside retreat offers amenities and events to keep the entire family (including Fido) occupied. Rent bikes, go kayaking, play a round of tennis or golf, hang by the pool, or build a bonfire on the beach.

Don’t forget your binoculars—Blaine is a birdwatching paradise, officially recognized as the most northerly “Important Bird Area of Washington.” The Alaska Packers Association Museum is a great way to learn about the area’s maritime history—or embark on your own maritime experience by riding the Historic Plover Ferry, the oldest foot passenger ferry in the state.

Blaine is also just a short drive to the U.S. – Canadian border, home to Peace Arch State Park. When in bloom, the park boasts thousands of flowers and shrubs plus seasonal displays of sculptures and art.
