Discover Newport

Dungeness Crab Capitol of the World ®
Incorporated in 1882, Newport has long been a popular vacation spot, attracting tourists with beachside hotels, fresh seafood, and saltwater taffy. Even over a century later, visitors enjoy year-round outdoor activities, diverse attractions, restaurants, and unique shopping.
One of the most recognizable landmarks in Newport is the Yaquina Bay Bridge. Completed in 1936, this bridge was the final link on the Coast Highway, connecting the entire Oregon coast and bringing more tourists to the area. Designed with elegant steel arches, it offers stunning views of the coastline and the Yaquina River. Below the bridge, Newport’s bustling bayfront is central to its seafood industry, featuring canneries and the largest commercial fishing fleet in Oregon. Celebrated as the Dungeness Crab Capital of the World, Newport also offers a variety of other seafood, including salmon and halibut, alongside restaurants and family-friendly attractions like the Oregon Coast Aquarium.

Historic Nye Beach, known for the century-old Sylvia Beach Hotel still stands proudly on the bluff overlooking the ocean and provides an unplugged vacation experience. Visitors can enjoy various hotels, eateries, shopping, parks, and Newport’s beloved Performing Arts Center, all within walking distance.
Newport is also home to two lighthouses: the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse, built in 1871, and the Yaquina Head Lighthouse, constructed in 1873 and the tallest in Oregon. These landmarks are situated in the Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area, which offers several outdoor experiences such as bird watching, exploring tide pools, whale watching or hiking.
Whether you’re here to rest and relax, or to seek and explore, Newport has something special for everyone.
