Since 1997, OSKA has combined innovative Eastern design and practical European minimalism to create easy, elegant, and instantly recognizable women’s wear. Flowing lines, simple shapes, and only the very best natural fibers have become the signature of this highly sought-after brand, whose downtown Seattle outpost draws loyalists from around the globe. The Pacific Northwest destination’s seasoned staff creates a warm and personal shopping experience, where repeat clientele and first-time buyers receive the same exemplary service. Since each season’s line works in conjunction with previous pieces, building the essential OSKA wardrobe is a breeze. Combining elegance, simplicity, and practicality, the biannual collections barely make it onto store shelves before devotees clamber to add them to their closets.
OSKA and sister brand ISCHIKO’s 2019 Spring/Summer line is no exception, offering the shapes and designs customers expect with a new twist: The vibrantly rich hues are inspired by nature and Netflix. In creating the line, designer Anne Pastré sought to capture the essence of Zen Buddhist nun Jeong Kwan, who is featured on Netflix’s popular travel and food program The Chef’s Table. Kwan’s Korean temple food—with its strikingly colored, agrestal ingredients (think deep beet, vivid golden turmeric, and striking green matcha), mindful, traditional preparation, and simply cut garments—serves as muse to the ISCHIKO line, making each piece a feast for the senses.
Elements of earthiness continue to flow through the collection with the expansion into sustainable based hemp fabrics, which are crafted using the millennia-old traditions of Chinese growers. Hemp requires little irrigation, absorbs twice as much CO2 as cotton, and is a rare plant whose byproducts are all of use, making for waste-free production. Dip your toe into the collection with Dress Patori 922, an O-shaped, loose-fit pattern in luxe jersey that complements all body types. The garment’s popularity is derived from its ability to travel well, astonishingly simple care, great breathability, and the ease with which it can be dressed up or down.
Other fabrics featured in the line include OSKA’s exclusive techno mirco fiber, which is presented in the Spring/Summer collection each year. This season, the fabric is offered in several silhouettes of pants and dresses as well as blouses and jackets. In addition, OSKA partners with the Fair Wear Foundation, whose goal is to ensure fair working conditions in the textile industry worldwide so consumers can feel certain their garments are created as holistically as possible.
