Come hear about mind blowing cancer research happening at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, directly from the source, while mixing and mingling with some of the boldest and brightest at the Bellevue Arts Museum. You will be joined by Innovators Network (IN) members and their friends- a group of young professionals interested in saving lives faster by funding innovative early-stage research at Fred Hutch. IN members’ support helps launch new research projects up to 6 times faster than research funded by government grants alone.

Join us for this complimentary happy hour at BAM and get a sneak peek into what makes Fred Hutch one of the most ground breaking research centers in the world. Over drinks and bites, you will hear from two scientists who work on the front lines in the fight against cancer.

Meet the Scientists:

Erick Matsen, Ph.D.

Dr. Matsen is a mathematician, working on the front lines in the fight against cancer. As a computational biologist, he uses mega math to study evolution. Erick brings his mathematical prowess to statistical models for phylogenetic trees and applies them to intriguing and highly relevant questions of biology, particularly the evolutionary biology of viruses and bacteria.

Johnnie Orozco, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Orozco wants to develop less toxic cancer treatments. For patients with blood cancers like leukemia or lymphoma, a standard element of treatment is total body radiation. While this helps to wipe out the cancer, it also wipes out healthy cells along the way. Johnnie is working to develop a more targeted form of irradiation called alpha radioimmunotherapy. It works through the delivery of radioactive isotopes straight to a patients diseased bone marrow, much like a smart bomb. The radioactive isotopes are designed to deliver a powerful yet focused dose of radiation only to targeted cancer cells, leaving healthy organs untouched.

This is a unique opportunity to connect with other young business and industry leaders while learning about cutting-edge research taking place at Fred Hutch. Join us at the Bellevue Art Museum and RSVP today! Must be 21+ to attend.
